For many Veterans, maintaining independence at home is deeply important. A clean, safe and well-kept home supports not only physical wellbeing, but peace of mind too. Yet as life changes, whether through age, injury, health conditions or simply a busy household, keeping up with regular cleaning and housekeeping can become increasingly challenging.
That’s where cleaning support for Veterans can make a meaningful difference.
In Australia, eligible Veterans may be able to access cleaning and housekeeping support through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA), allowing them to continue living comfortably and independently in their own homes, without the stress or physical strain of managing it all themselves.
At SOAP Professional Cleaning, we’re proud to support Veterans and their families with thoughtful, respectful and reliable cleaning services, delivered with genuine care.
Why Cleaning Support Matters
A clean home is about much more than appearances. For Veterans, it can play an essential role in:
- Reducing slip and trip hazards
- Supporting physical health and mobility
- Maintaining hygiene and comfort
- Reducing stress and fatigue
- Preserving dignity and independence
When everyday cleaning tasks become difficult, it’s easy for small jobs to build up – and that can quickly affect quality of life. Accessing veterans cleaning services helps ease that burden, creating a safer, calmer living environment where Veterans can focus on what truly matters.
What Veterans Cleaning Support Can Include
DVA-funded household assistance is designed to help with non-clinical, practical tasks around the home. While services vary depending on individual needs and approval, cleaning support for Veterans may include:
Regular Household Cleaning
- Vacuuming and mopping floors
- Dusting surfaces and furniture
- Cleaning kitchens and bathrooms
- Emptying bins and general tidying
Bathroom and Kitchen Hygiene
These high-use areas require particular attention to maintain safety and cleanliness, including:
- Shower and toilet cleaning
- Sink and benchtop sanitising
- Appliance wipe-downs
- Removing built-up grime that can become hazardous
Laundry and Linen Assistance
Some Veterans may also receive help with:
- Washing, drying and folding laundry
- Changing bed linen
- Organising linen cupboards
This can be especially helpful for those with limited mobility or joint pain.

Supporting Veterans Living with Injury or Illness
Many Veterans live with service-related injuries or ongoing health conditions that make household tasks more difficult. These may include:
- Reduced mobility or balance
- Chronic pain
- Vision impairment
- Respiratory conditions
- Fatigue or reduced stamina
Cleaning support allows Veterans to remain in their own homes without pushing their bodies beyond safe limits. It also reduces the risk of injury from activities such as bending, lifting or reaching.
Cleaning Services for Older Veterans
As Veterans age, everyday household tasks can gradually become more demanding. Regular cleaning support can help older Veterans:
- Maintain a consistent routine
- Avoid overexertion
- Keep their home comfortable and welcoming
- Continue living independently for longer
Just as importantly, having a trusted, familiar cleaner can bring reassurance — knowing someone reliable is regularly checking in and helping maintain the home.

Peace of Mind for Veterans’ Families and Carers
Cleaning support doesn’t just benefit Veterans; it also provides peace of mind for family members and carers. Knowing that a parent, partner or loved one is living in a clean, well-maintained environment can ease worry, particularly when family members live far away or are balancing work and caregiving responsibilities. Professional Veterans cleaning services help ensure that no one feels they have to manage everything alone.
Choosing a Cleaning Service That Feels Right
Veterans approved for household assistance are able to choose their own cleaning provider, as long as the business is properly registered and insured.
When selecting a cleaning service, it’s important to look for a team that understands:
- The importance of respect and privacy
- The need for consistency and reliability
- That every Veteran’s situation is unique
At SOAP, we take the time to listen. We tailor our services to suit individual needs and preferences, always working at a pace that feels comfortable. Our team cleans modern homes the old-fashioned way, with care, attention to detail and genuine pride in our work.
Security, Consistency and Peace of Mind
When inviting someone into your home, trust and reliability matter. That’s why all SOAP cleaners are directly employed by us – we never use contractors or agency staff. Our team members are carefully selected, fully trained in our standards and values, and supported on an ongoing basis. This approach ensures consistency from visit to visit, clear accountability, and genuine peace of mind for our clients and their families. You can feel confident knowing the person caring for your home is part of a trusted, professional team who truly understands the importance of respect, privacy and reliability.
Veteran Cards & Getting Started
Accessing DVA cleaning and household support starts with the right assessment — and in many cases, a Veteran Card.
If you or a loved one don’t yet have one, you can apply through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Once approved, eligible veterans can choose SOAP as their cleaning and housekeeping provider.
If you hold a Gold Card or White Card, you can arrange an assessment through the Veterans’ Home Care program by calling the DVA assessment agency on 1300 550 450 or contacting DVA directly. During the assessment, your needs and support requirements will be discussed.
If you’re unsure where to start, we’re always happy to help point you in the right direction.
